Raw Perlite

Raw Perlite

Perlite ore contains between 2% and 5% combined or occluded water. When rapidly heated above a temperature of 1,000 degrees Celcius, the graded perlite ore particles melt and expand to between 4 and 40 times the original volume as the combined water vaporises and forms microscopic cells or tiny bubbles in the heat softened glass.

When granulated perlite ore is heated to 870 - 1,300 degrees Celcius, it becomes molten glass, and the water of hydration withi each granule is released as expanded water vapour. Accomplished rapidly and under carefully controlled conditions, this combination glass liquefaction/water vaporization event results in the virtual instantaneous explosive formation of partially fractured, low bulk density multicellular particles. Perlite's manufacturing process exploits the expansion characteristics of perlite ore, ensuring the consistent production of thin-walled particles which can be milled and/or air classified into very low density filter aids with high predictable physical and chemical properties.

Derived from volcanic rock, perlite is a natural, lightweight, inert and fireproof rock making it a rock of choice for a wide variety of end uses from cosmetics to construction.

Key Benefits of Product

TurkPerlite raw perlite prevents abnormal surface tensions as it provides the metal to cool slowly and evenly. It does not burn during casting, does not release gas and does not react with metal. It allows the gases formed during casting to exit through the cavities and channels within it. Clean, solid, high quality and efficient casting is obtained. As it minimizes casting errors, it reduces the cleaning time and labor.
